Thats going to be tough now they only have 8-9 guys to go yard.if
Broadhurst is there that does a good job of filling 2nd base.

Sounds like alot of depth to me Maybe Whitey could play 2nd , might as well have another contact hitter in the lineup

just so norsac knows steve didn't argue balls and strikes it was an obstruction call while steve was running to first then fordy snapped because steve asked him if it was obstruction

13,
Shawn McMahon threw for Wdstk.
He threw a great game.
It was not his fault they lost.
I know Wdstk respects Ayr's team.
They are in the final for a real good reason.
See ya.

After talking with Steve on the weekend, I explained to him that when you have a rep you are going to get toss. Whether you just question the call quickly or not. From personal experience with both him and Mike, they spout off and say their piece then its up to me to turn away and just ignore their antics. If I was out there to throw them out every game I umpire then I wouldn't be doing my job correctly.YES believe it not it doesn't say in the rule book that we kick out players for being asses.. Sometimes it's good to keep those people that act like asses on the diamond to remind others not to act like that.If someone acts this way and is not being direct to me personally, then I will let them act this way. It only embaresses them and their team, not me at all.
As for all you people that keep debating whether we should eject Steve and Mike, well this umpire thinks he will deal with them in his own way. As for Darrell Ford, Darrell is a good umpire and is volunteeing his time as an umpire and the last time I checked not one of you that question us on the diamond ever step up to umpire!!!!
So just go out there and play the game and enjoy it while you can still play.
For the love of the game.
Rob

I hear what you are trying to say Rob more teams should respect the umpires, alot of them do a great job. But I dont think it is volunteering your time, as far as I know they get paid somewhere around $40 a game, thats pretty good money for an hour and half of work. Sometimes you should think that the unpires should respect the game more, there not there to be the center of attention, the ball game should be.

Canadian

You are right about umpires respecting the game. Most of the umpires that I have worked with do.We are part of the game and most times are the centre of attention, because we are deciding the fate of the game. You have to remember that there is a lack of umpires these days and these guys are umpiring every night of the week so the ballplayers can have umpires at their games. We have maybe 10 umps that can do mens fastball but look after 10 mens teams, you do the math. 10 times two makes 20 umps to look after 10 mens teams. Maybe they are just getting burned out and have a short fuse or trigger finger as you guys call it. As for getting paid lets think it as this way; we are your employees getting paid. What give the right of an employer to harass and metally abuse its employees. Last time I checked its against the law to verbally abuse or slander someone. But just to remind you we are not your employees, so we can walk away at any time if you continue to harass us. So us getting paid is not an issue on this at all. We do get paid and sometimes its never enough to cover our time away from our families or travel we do through out the year. As I have out line before if you ever want to call me I would happy explain to you the cost of umpiring. There is no way we are getting ahead in $ figures.
For those who think, " we pay you so we will abuse you" I hope they're are not on your team. Those people are cancers to teams and should not be playing in the league.
So again I call out to all, Step up to the plate and umpire or just shut up and enjoy the game of fastball. Promoting the game is better for all of us, than dragging it down.

ejection and umpiring in general

Just returning to fastball as a spectator sport. Former player, umpire who switched to slo-pitch to get away from all the arguing. I suggest we return to old days where you just couldn't argue balls and strikes out and safe and you had a coach who agrued rule interpertatons for you. Generally there is not enough respect shown at the ball park these days. some of that is just changing times. Language once considered offensive is now just part of the day to day conversation of both genders. I have always tried to let players have their say because i had a fair bit to say when i played. I think that backfires these days because players in general will just keep pushing the envelope.
I agree with Rob that there is a huge official shortage and it is only going to get worse in this area. Just take a look at the age of the guys umpiring. Not too many younger guys getting into it in this area.

You guys are crazy, I'll be the first to agree that the umpires aren't perfect, but if the job was SO easy, then we really wouldn't need them. The complaining from Game 1 is complete B.S. Fordy let him have his say, which most of do, and then he continued on, and proceeded to make them look bad, which has to be the end of it, if the umpires allow these premadonna's to just put on a show and act like the asses that some of them are, then they'll lose control with everyone. As for the money situation, being an ISC umpire as well, and looking into equipment trust me a mear $40 a game is nothing, specially considering it take 20 mins to get ready and then to leave, atleast 30 min round trip alot of times more, plus the hour and half, sometimes longer game, thats 2 hours 40 mins, making things close to $13/hr, not including the money it takes to have 8 different uniforms and protective equipment which has to updated all the time, means we're getting more like $10... Who in the right mind would want to do this job?? Specially with that kind of abuse... unless we really love the game? which is the only reason I'm sure that umpires remain to do the job, which is becoming fewer and fewer.... Some players will just never understand until you have to umpire the games yourself, because we wont have enough guys to do the job... Either that or just not play at all.. Which would you pick???

history would suggest that Kelsey's will rise to the occasion tonight. might be good for the league if Ayr won though.

I have played mens fastball for the last 23 yrs and I can tell you the Umpire/Player debate has been there the entire time. We could fill the entire forum with moot points. The way I see it umpires want respect and players want consistancy, when these two lines are crossed that is when trouble arises. As far as centering out umpires/players believe me there is nothing to be gained there or is there?
Now about so called antics, this has also been a part of the game as long as I can remember and it will be there long after I'm gone.
To Steve and Mike, I have played with Steve for 12 yrs and Mike for 4 yrs and I can tell you straight out ,you will never find 2 guys that love this game more than them. The passion you see in a game is the same as what you'd see at a practice. I would much rather be on the diamond with them then against them.
