BURGESSVILLE - Having suffered six straight losses to end the regular season, the Burgessville Bulls limped their way into the Tri-County Men’s Fastball league playoffs.
In between, something clicked for the 10th-place team.
The Bulls won nine straight games in the post-season, culminating with Monday’s 7-5 win over the Straffordville Express to sweep the best-of-five ‘B’ championship series.
"I didn’t expect a sweep but we played well," Bulls manager Shawn Steinhoff said. "We didn’t let up in the playoffs. We (won) nine straight games and everyone played hard."
Todd Schafsma had three RBI and James Schafsma hit a two-run homer to lead the Bulls offence.
Mike Maris connected for a two-run shot for the Express, who battled all game and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh after scoring a pair of runs.
The championship was Burgessville’s first since 2004, when it also won the ‘B’ side. That season the Bulls finished 11th with a 10-19 record, one more win than they recorded this season.

Monday’s sweep at Ducky Dennis Park was the Bulls’ third after eliminating the Mt. Elgin Mets and Ingersoll Masters.
"We wanted to finish as well as we could in the top half," Steinhoff said. "A few games didn’t go our way. I had a good feeling about winning ‘B’."
