The “B” Finals got off to a thrilling start as Tillsonburg and Port Burwell entertained the fans down by the lake in Game 1. Tillsonburg got on the board early in the top of the first when Scott Clark laced a 2-out, 2-run homerun over the leftfield fence to open the scoring in the game and the series. The Lakers responded quickly in the home half of the first when Brent Roloson came up with a 2-out RBI hit of his own to cut the deficit in half. After an eventful first inning the bats went quiet for both teams as the pitchers, Joel McKie for the Tigers and the Lakers’ Steve DeBlaire, settled down and cruised through the next five innings without alarm. Trailing by one run heading into the home half of the seventh, Lakers’ thirdbaseman Nate Earhardt singled with one out and then advanced to second on a deep flyout to centrefield. Jason Finch promptly drove him in to tie the game, and advanced to second on the ensuing throw home. Tyler Hoshal then stepped to the plate and delivered with a hard base hit to leftfield scoring Finch with the winning run. If Game 1 was any indication, the battle for the Ted Killing Memorial trophy will be a tightly contested one.
